to route 29 in centreville and here at 50 over to 123. north of the beltway in virginia, no issues on the inner loop from braddock to 66 right now. everything is moving well. moving to the beltway in maryland, we have a disabled vehicle to watch for. it is on the outer loop ramp from route 50. it is blocking the ramp there and here no problems. we are starting to see a delay from university over to georgia. moving our graphics. route 4, route 5, 301, a little volume starting to build out here but no incidents to report and finally if you are heading in to the district, no problems. suitland parkway and south capital street. everything is clear in to the district. >> at the top of the hour, a story that is new at 6:00 here on 9 news now. mystery over the taped beating of a university of maryland student. you have seen the video of the student attacked by police last month. the the university is calling for an inquiry in to a another recording that has a 90 minute gap. it was subpoenaed by the victim's attorney. four police officers are on suspension pending an investigation. >>> tod

12 months for metro. now the governors of maryland and gentleman virginia are teaming up with the mayor of d.c. to personally get metro back on track. >> reporter: the governors of virginia and maryland and the mayor of d.c. spent muscle of an hour discussing metro safety issues and agreeing they want to personally intervene. >> we feel changes must be made. we need to have more ability to have accountability in that system. >> reporter: the board that oversees metro is selected in different ways. in maryland the government appoints the local board members and alternates. in d.c. the mayor appoints half. the city council appoints half. in virginia the governor has no say. local board members are appointed by the various virginia cities and counties that metro runs in. these three executives want more power over the metro board. >> it's time for the governors and the mayor be a little more hands on and we'll be working through either legislative and statutory changes or using the bully pulpit more. >> reporter: they also want in person periodic meetings with metro's interi

and virginia came together to ask for more oversight of the agency. news4's megan mcgrath joins us with more. >> good morning. there have been 15 accidents in the metro system in the last year. the chairman of the committee on oversight in government reform opened this hearing by saying that was completely unacceptable and that something needs to change. now, metro officials including the new interim gm, richard sorrells are appearing before that committee today to answer questions about their safety record and what's being done to make sure that the system and the passengers are safe. now, some lawmakers a calling for more oversight over metro. specifically that there needs to be an agency with real teeth, real enforcement powers to watch over the system as well as come up with safety procedures. right now they say there is not such an entity that has enforcement powers and plays that role. also, others are calling for more funding, specifically federal funding for metro so that they can get back to do some of the maintenance and other things that they need to do and they hope that that wil

in town. there is a warm front boundary here through the virginia mountains. this storm is flowing showers on the northern fringe. the yellow and the orange are the more substantial rain. the storm itself is a slow mover. yesterday in kentucky. and this morning in the north carolina mountains. it will be pulling a southeasterly wind. that will hold our temperatures down and increase our threat of rainfall. so, check out the forecast model. there will be rain during the afternoon hours, but the heaviest rain south of annapolis, through maryland and virginia, that is pretty much where the band of rain will stay in response to our storm that sits here across south central virginia. we will get the threat of rain through the evening hours. overnight, there is the center of circulation, with the rain wrapping around the back side of the low. that's off of the coast. the clear skies leaving us with more sunshine and a warmup before the next weather system can race in here for the weekend and next week. for today, mostly cloudy skies. there will be afternoon hours. so, take up the brella and a li

s in southeast virginia. well, we cloudy skies that gave away to a few hours of clearing overnight. 45 in baltimore and warmer terms to the south. an indication of what will be pushed around the storm system. with low pressure in the mountains and it is pushing in slightly warmer air. that is in response to a southwest wind. the heavier rain is to the south. it will build into maryland towards late morning and early afternoon. the heaviest rain near annapolis, but south of 50, through southern maryland and virginia tech you are traveling 95 towards richmond, you will probably run into the heavier rain for today. from washington, d.c. through baltimore, light showers. that extends through pennsylvania. this is 2:00 in the afternoon and we will take you through 6:00 in the evening. wet yegg in baltimore, the heavier rain to the south will slow down travel for today and require the wipers on your car and probably a light rain jacket. now, the chance of rain diminishes overnight. the cloud line is pushing across. low pressure is wrapping around. the moisture on the back side. it is off

. a warm front that is circulating from the clouds. you will see that. the rainfall across west virginia. the low pressure is throwing showers on the north side. area of low pressure is spreading that moisture and also wrapping in what will be an increasing southeasterly wind. that throws in more moisture and you have the south component it really cools things down. we're left with a cool damp feel for today. the storm system was in kentucky yesterday and now pushing across the pam lesion mountains. and a slow mover. this is what we have to deal for today. the heaviest rain is probably going to be south of route 50. maybe clipping portions of washington, d.c. and annapolis, southern maryland and southeast virginia. and the northern fringe it is light rain and showers that takes us from the afternoon to the evening. then tonight the scattered showers passes towards the east and we wrap up drier air as the clouds pull around. we should stay dry until the next weather system arrives for the weekend. so if today, developing rain and temperatures downtown around 62 degrees for that's our 2 de
